The sharp s (Eszett) is a letter unique to the German alphabet, representing a voiceless 's' sound.

Usage

Used in German after long vowels and diphthongs (Straße, Fuß, Maß). In Switzerland, 'ss' is used instead. Uppercase form ẞ was officially introduced in 2017.
